Village Voices

 Markham Community Choir

About our choir...

A community choir

image114

Village Voices was formed in 1989.  It is a not-for-profit adult mixed voices community choir which performs in the Markham community and surrounding area. Village Voices is member of Choirs Ontario, SOCAN, York Region Arts Council and the Markham Arts Council. Our director, Oksana Vignan, is a talented conductor and pianist. Winter and Spring programs are presented each year. They include traditional as well as contemporary works. We also serve the community by performing in senior homes. We rely on sponsors, as well as our membership fees to continue to offer our audience a high calibre repertoire. Thanks you, STOUFFVILLE SHELL LUMBER for sponsoring our 2018-2019 concerts.

Our Interim Music Director, Shirley Madden

Shirley is very pleased to be assuming the role of Interim Music Director for the Village Voices!  A trained soloist, holding multiple degrees in both performance and teaching, Shirley currently sings with the Amadeus Choir.

Shirley has conducted numerous choirs in the past, performing everything from Classical Choral Repertoire to Music Theatre and Vocal Jazz. All of her choirs have won numerous awards at the local, provincial and national level, but her first love is working with community choirs. She enjoys the challenge of working with choirs of mixed experience but still believes very strongly in always selecting “excellent music and performing it with musical excellence”, so that both the singer and the audience are enlightened and uplifted! Shirley insists that from the first rehearsal to the final performance, singing in a choir should always be an engaging, challenging and joyful experience for everyone!

Our accompanist, Robert Graham

Robert Graham is a Toronto based Canadian/Australian pianist, singer and songwriter.  He has worked as a professional pianist, accompanist, vocalist, music director and vocal/repertoire coach, and has played with many multi-genre ensembles in Australia, Canada and the U.K., including the Canadian roots group TANGLEFOOT.  His band THE FAIREST AND BEST released their debut EP in the fall 2015 (www.thefairestandbest.com).
